*GRCC Academic and Student Affairs is completing a reorganization that will be in effect July 1, 2022. This position will
be a part of the new School of Liberal Arts.


SUMMARY
GRCC is seeking an affiliate faculty who possess an interest in working with diverse student populations from a wide range of age, ethnicity, national origin and ability; engage in and develop innovative teaching strategies; effectively assess student learning outcomes; demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development and provide service to our students, the college, and our community at large. Affiliate Faculty are full-time non-tenure track, classroom faculty, and are hired to develop new programs which require new course development, expertise that does not exist with current faculty, and result in a new certificate, degree, credential, or pre major.

Faculty members are responsible to GRCC and to each other for the successful completion of departmental work, as well as associated with the School of Liberal Arts and GRCC as a whole. It is expected that faculty demonstrate outstanding communication skills, collaborate effectively, use personal initiative to overcome obstacles and work efficiently to meet deadlines. In an environment where innovation is valued, each faculty member will take responsibility to perform their work in a manner consistent with both the letter and the spirit of GRCC values.


Essential Job Functions
? Teach American Sign Language (ASL) courses as a full-time faculty member
? Coordinator duties may include:
? Lead adjunct faculty in ASL – recruitment, orientation, and mentoring
? Provide schedule recommendations to the Department Chair
? Be a point of contact for all ASL questions from internal and external communities
? As requested by students, provide assessments for students to help determine class placement
? Serve as the department liaison for dual enrollment inquiries
? Advise students of additional opportunities at other colleges and universities to continue their study of
ASL
? Curriculum duties may include:
? Review and revise current ASL curriculum (align Sign Language 3 and Fingerspelling with LCC guidelines)
? Develop a Sign to Voice course
? Develop a 1+2+1 program with LCC and Siena Heights University
? Develop a partnership with Lansing Community College Interpreter Program
? Explore practicum opportunities for students in the Grand Rapids area
? Create partnership with local high schools to recruit students and potentially offering courses on site
? Work with Communications Department to market ASL opportunities and curriculum to students and
community
? Participate fully as a member of the Language and Thought Department in such activities as department meetings, curriculum development, assessment, evaluation, course revision work, committee membership, textbook selection, community outreach and other duties as determined by the College.
? Provide leadership and mentoring for adjuncts as needed or requested by the department.


JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education/License

? Bachelor’s degree required
? Master’s degree preferred
? Minimum one of the following certifications: BEI, Sign Language Proficiency Interview (SLPI) level Advanced or
ASLPI Level 4, EIPA 4.0+, ASLTA, NIC, NIC Advanced, NIC Master, CI/CT, CSC

Work Experience
? Community college experience preferred -Successful teaching experience in the discipline preferred

? Appropriate technology required to perform the duties of the position
