Position Summary:

The Program Assistant performs a full range of operations and administrative tasks in support of the TRIO program and enrollment of students at a two-year Connecticut Community College which has open enrollment, and which offers degree and certificate programs in a broad range of liberal arts, transfer, occupational and career studies.

Incumbents must possess proven ability to effectively work with a culturally, linguistically, and ethnically diverse faculty, staff, and student. They are expected to have excellent oral and written communication skills along with strong Information technology literacy skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams etc.)

Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors’ degree in an appropriately related field and one (1) year of relevant experience; or a combination of education, training and experience which would lead to the competencies required for successful performance of the position's essential duties

Successful Candidate must have or must possess:

  • Experience working in an inclusive environment for students, faculty, staff, and community partners by respecting and appreciating each person's background, race, age, gender, disability, values, lifestyle, perspectives, or interests when supporting others
  • Experience overseeing budgets
  • Experience managing multiple intake systems to track students and spending
  • Experience with Canvas/Banner

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One (1) or more years of related experience serving in an administrative capacity
  • Experience assisting students/people from diverse backgrounds and at-risk students
  • Experience with data entry including Excel Spreadsheets
  • Experience with Annual Performance Reporting
  • Experience providing administrative support to a Director and working in a team environment

Example of Job Duties:

Under the direction of the Director TRIO/Student Support Services, the Program Assistant is responsible for these duties through effective performance in these essential functional areas:

  • Oversees program budget, forecasting, maintenance, and records.
  • Manages data entry and assist TRIO program staff with preparation for and completion of Annual Performance Report (APR).
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records, excel documents and files other administrative duties.
  • Assists in the recruitment, orientation, and coordination of in-coming program participants.

In addition to the accountabilities listed above, the incumbent is required to carry out the essential duties of: Attendance and participation at convocation and commencement ceremonies; Service on assigned committees and task forces; Attendance and participation at committee, staff, informational and professional meetings. These may involve attendance at evening or weekend events.

Starting Salary:

$26.85 approximate hourly* plus excellent State of CT medical insurance, retirement, and related fringe benefits. Position may become permanent tenure track depending on funding, college needs and student enrollment. (*New hires to State employment start at minimum of salary range).
