Located in Western Pennsylvania since 1946, PTC awards associate and bachelor’s degrees and certificates in these areas: Business, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Hospitality, Design and Engineering Technology, Healthcare, Nursing, Information Systems and Technology, Trades Technology, and Energy and Electronics Technology. The PTC college experience is empowering and culminates in internships and clinical rotations for on-campus, degree-seeking students.

Purpose of Job

The Academic Chair of the School of Information Systems and Technology (IST) and the School of Design provides the primary leadership and overall program management to the staff and faculty of PTC’s Associate of Science in Computer Information Systems (CIS), Associate of Science in Information Technology – Network Administration (ITNA), Associate of Science in Information Technology – Network Security and Computer Forensics (ITSF), Bachelor of Science in Information Systems and Technology (BSIST) and the Computer Aided Drafting – Architectural (AET) and Mechanical (MET), Graphic Design (GD), Video Production (MMVP), and Web Development and Design. The Academic Chair will facilitate faculty development in teaching effectiveness, educational theory, and curriculum design through collaborative and scholarly work that fosters a culture of excellence.
The School of IST and School of Design delivers all programs on campus using in-person instruction, as well as offering the BSIST, CIS, and ITNA as fully online programs. The School of IST AS in Information Technology program has been awarded the distinction of A National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CDE). The schools of IST and Design were awarded three federal grants from the National Science Foundation (NSF); The ATE, Cyber Employment Readiness Program (CERP), and NSF S-STEM which are active with over one million dollars of funding.

Education Requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION:
Master’s degree in the fields of Information Systems and Technology, Design, or a related degree.
PREFERRED EDUCATION:
A doctorate within field is a plus.

Experience Requirements

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum of 3 years management experience in program administration and faculty leadership or a minimum of 7 years of teaching in an institution of higher education. The Academic Chair must have the leadership skills and vision to position the department as a leader in technology, innovation, and education in information systems and information technology and Design. Upholds strong commitments toward diversity, equity and inclusion for students, staff, and faculty.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference given to higher education administration experience.

Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • In collaboration with the Deans and the Vice President of Academic Affairs, employ effective strategic enrollment and retention management strategies to grow and maintain student enrollment
  • Safeguard the quality of instruction and participate in faculty and program review, evaluation, and strategic planning. Ensure that program outcome benchmarks are reached.
  • In collaboration with the Vice President of Academic Affairs, work to develop a strong team of full-time and adjunct faculty including hiring, mentoring, advising, directing, and evaluating
  • In collaboration with the Vice President of Academic Affairs and the Dean of Education Systems and Professional Studies, work to identify, plan, and implement faculty professional development opportunities
  • Develop, strengthen, and ensure the effectiveness of student support systems that lead to student success
  • In collaboration with the Vice President of Academic Affairs, plan and administer the School of Information Systems and Technology and School of Design annual operational and payroll budgets • Determine faculty teaching and curriculum development assignments
  • Participate in the planning and review processes for the recruitment and enrollment of qualified students
  • Organize, plan, and attend program specific Advisory Board Meetings
  • Determine transfer of credits for potential incoming Information Systems and Technology and Design students
  • Writes or supports the writing of detailed and accurate grant proposals, prepares data for required reports, renewal requests consistent with all grant-source requirements.
  • Improve and sustain program outcome goals, i.e., job placement, and program completion rates
  • In collaboration with the Career Services team, foster employer partnerships to sustain and increase internship and full-time placement opportunities for students and graduates
  • Resolve student issues that escalate beyond faculty intervention
  • Provide oversight to departmental committees, i.e., curriculum and research initiatives
  • Teach career readiness and/or foundation courses in the schools of Information Systems and Technology and Design programs KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
