Associate Faculty, Dental Assisting - Allied Health Education (PT Faculty)


LOCATION: Lynnwood Washington


The Allied Health department invites applications for Associate Faculty, Dental Assisting Instructor. The department offers a variety of degrees and certificates that are listed on the department web site at https://www.edmonds.edu/programs/ahe.


Instructors will be responsible for providing leadership in a new Dental Assisting program and should be able to teach a variety of courses including: Orientation to Dental Assisting, Chairside Assisting, Dental Sciences, Infection Control and Office Administration.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Educational qualifications related to specific discipline in the dental professions - assistant, hygienist, or dentist. (i.e. AA degree, Bachelor's degree).
  • Current (or eligible for) State of Washington certification and/or licensure in the relevant dental profession (assistant, hygienist, dentist).
  • One year of recent full-time work experience as a dental assistant, dental hygienist or dentist.
  • Teaching or training experience equivalent to one college quarter.
  • Excellent verbal, listening, problem-solving, critical thinking and writing skills.
  • Good technology skills and familiarity with the Internet and communicating online.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Teaching experience at a community college or university.
  • Ability to work effectively with populations representing diverse ages, backgrounds, life experiences, and abilities, including adult learners.
  • Demonstrated experience developing curriculum and learning assessment tools
  • Experience working with Canvas or other online learning management systems.

PHYSICAL WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Work is typically performed in a variety of settings including classrooms, skills labs and off campus clinical sites. Standing or sitting for long periods of time may occur in any of the settings mentioned. The ability to speak clearly and fully comprehend written and spoken English is essential.


WORK SCHEDULE/SALARY:

Work schedule is based on an eleven week quarterly schedule and could vary each quarter. Salary is dependent upon contract load and mode of instruction. A standard five-credit "lecture mode" class would be approximately $5,142.65


CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • You must document your citizenship or employment authorization within three days of hire.
  • You must qualify for vocational certification (see required qualifications).
  • This position is part of a bargaining unit subject to a collective bargaining agreement.
  • Position is subject to a criminal background check.
  • All new positions are contingent upon funding.
