Summary

Illinois Central College is looking for Adjunct Faculty to teach Horticulture Courses. Day and Evening course schedules are available. If courses are available, adjuncts may continue to teach for future semesters.

Adjunct Faculty are primarily responsible for instructing assigned courses meeting classroom standards. The Adjunct Faculty must follow institutional syllabi. Additionally, Adjunct Faculty will be required to maintain office hours to best ensure student success. Adjunct Faculty teach on a part time basis up to 12 contact hours per semester.

  1. Instruct and coordinate courses including lecture and/or lab based classes ensuring all necessary materials and tools are readily available and that safety standards are met, when appropriate.
  2. Follow syllabi for assigned courses communicating the expectations and schedule for the classwork.
  3. Maintain office hours and availability.
  4. Communicate with students working to ensure student success.
  5. Collaborate with Faculty and Staff to continuously improve and adapt the student experience to meet the needs of the student, community and institution.
  6. Perform related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.

  1. Bachelor's degree in Horticulture, Landscape Management, or Plant Sciences OR Associate's degree in Horticulture, Landscape Management, or Plant Sciences with 2000 work hours as a horticulture technician OR 10 years of experience working as a horticulture technician.

The Horticulture Adjunct should be qualified to teach courses as follows:

· HORT 114 - Intro to Turf Grass Management

o MW - 12:00 pm – 1:15 pm

o F - 9:00 am – 11:50 am

o Available – August through December

· HORT 130 – Woody Plant ID

o T - 11:00 am – 12:50 pm

o TH – 11:00 am – 1:50 pm

o Available – August through December

· HORT 213 – Landscape Layout and Design

o MWF – 11:00 am – 12:50 pm

o Hybrid class –online teaching component

o Available – August through December

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Experience instructing, tutoring, or similarly teaching in Horticulture, Landscape Management or Plant Sciences.
  2. Experience working in higher education.
