Director of Finance

Job Description

The Director of Finance is responsible for the accounting operations of the College in accordance with federal and state laws, accounting standards, and College policies and procedures. This position is also responsible for leading, guiding, and directing the Business Office. Business Office functions that are overseen in this capacity include, but are not limited to cash management, payroll, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cashier operations, purchasing, and fixed asset inventory.

  • The minimum annual salary for this position is $85,000. The salary is negotiable based on qualifications.
Examples of Duties

Constant (67-100%)

  • Responsible for leading and guiding which includes coaching, managing performance, professional development, cross-training, work scheduling, collaboration, etc.
  • Identify best practices and refines processes to streamline Business Office operations for efficiency and to ensure compliance with regulatory and reporting requirements.
  • Work closely with the Assistant Director of Finance in the day-to-day operations of the Business Office.
  • Work closely with the Accountant in maintenance of financial records and cash management.
  • Prepare financial reports as scheduled and/or requested.
  • Responsible for classification, coding, and compliance review for financial transactions including proper authorization and documentation.
  • Oversee that the deposit of all funds are timely into banks designated by the depository resolution approved by the Board of Directors.
  • Oversee general ledger maintenance, cash management, internal controls, and purchasing policies and procedures.

Frequent (34-66%)

  • Reconcile all accounts with those of the depository banks at the close of each month.
  • Oversee the College inventory including maintaining fixed asset records.
  • In collaboration with Information Services, responsible for updating and maintaining accounting functions within Ellucian Colleague.

Occasional (10-33%)

  • Assist with preparation of accounting records at year-end close and reporting to the Iowa Department of Education and other regulatory agencies.
  • Works with external auditors or external agencies including but not limited to annual audit (preparation of workpapers, scheduling, coordinating, gathering requested information and source documents, etc.).
  • Oversee the compilation and timely filing of quarterly and annual payroll reports such as 941's, W-2's, etc.
  • Oversee the issuance and reporting of 1099's and 1098T’s annually.
  • Work with and assist the accounting firm that conducts the annual ICCC Foundation audit.
  • Attends or participates in key training opportunities as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, logically and coherently orally and in writing.
  • Assume responsibility, deal effectively with problems and exercise independent judgment when making decisions.
  • Ability to provide leadership and maintain good working relationships with staff.
  • Ability to plan and organize in a continually changing environment.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or related field from an accredited college or university and minimum of five years of recent work experience in a related field.
  • Professional accreditation such as certified public accountant (CPA), certified accountant (CMA) or chartered global management accountant (CGMA) preferred.

Position involves constant (67-100%) sitting in an office setting, as well as talking on the telephone and in person, hearing, and viewing computer screen and other types of close visual work.
