GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

The responsibilities of this position are to assist in the processing and maintenance of transactions related to professional accounting work, including financial analysis, financial reporting and account reconciliations. Ensure timeliness and accuracy of information as it flows into the general ledger systems.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform administrative tasks such as data entry and scanning documentation for the college and related entities.

  • Administer regular accounting processes by preparing transactions, performing general ledger account reconciliations, preparing/analyzing financial reports and completing other administrative oriented tasks as assigned in support of the college.
  • Review financial transactions to ensure amounts are classified properly.
  • Review all necessary transactions and provide necessary reporting for areas of responsibility.
  • Maintain an understanding of established federal and state regulations as they apply to areas of responsibility.
  • Evaluate, develop and document policies, procedures and workflow for assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Provide assistance for month and year-end closing processes, and annual audits for the college and related entities.
  • Assist fellow peers and leadership with various tasks or projects, as needed.
  • Perform other related work duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of and ability to work with multiple technology systems and establish clear understanding of financial impacts and integration.
  • Ability to analyze data and solve complex problems.
  • Knowledge of financial and accounting principles and procedures, including an ongoing awareness of accounting standards.
  • Must maintain compliance with required trainings as designated by supervisor.
  • Have the presence, intelligence, demeanor, and verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively interact at all levels within and external to Kirkwood Community College.
  • Demonstrate a thorough understanding of and commitment to a customer service attitude while maintaining sound business practices.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES WITH/WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION:

Position involves working in a classroom setting. Occasional (10-33%) sitting, pushing, pulling and grasping. Frequent (34-66%) reaching and viewing a computer and other types of close visual work. Constant (67-100%) standing, walking, repetitive motion, talking and hearing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate’s degree in accounting.
  • 3+ years of related experience.
  • Experience with PC’s and related software.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS, LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, OR REGISTRATIONS :

  • Bachelor’s Degree in accounting or related field.
  • Knowledge of financial and accounting principles and procedures.
  • Knowledge of Ellucian/Colleague software
