SUMMARY
The Associate Director of Technical Operations manages all operational aspects of the School of Workforce Development’s academic labs, including equipment research and acquisition, layout (using CAD software) and installation of lab equipment, equipment maintenance and repair, and disposition of obsolete equipment. The Associate Director collaborates with the Purchasing Department to develop bid documents and RFP’s, evaluate submissions, and provide award recommendations. In collaboration with the Facilities Department, the Associate Director of Technical Operations manages and evaluates campus-wide facility improvement projects (renovations and new construction) associated with the School of Workforce Development, and works with construction managers, architects, contractors, subcontractors and vendors. The Associate Director supervises the work of academic equipment maintenance technicians, promotes staff development, and excellent customer service to both internal and external customers.

Essential Job Functions

  • Oversee all operational aspects of the SWD’s academic labs, including equipment acquisition, layout and installation of lab equipment, asset inventory and security, equipment maintenance and repair, and disposition of obsolete equipment.
  • Work with GRCC staff and vendors to design new SWD’s academic labs; identify lab or equipment modifications needed, and facilitate improvements to lab spaces.
  • Collaborate with SWD academic department heads to develop lab and equipment priorities, including equipment modifications and upgrades, lab design modifications and renovations, and related projects.
  • Oversee the SWD academic equipment planning and purchasing processes, ensuring efficiency and maximum return from available resources.
  • Monitor and maintain equipment and supplies budgets for the Perkins Grant, GENATC, and Technical Operations operating budgets; control costs related to equipment purchases, day-to-day maintenance work, department projects, etc.
  • Supervise the Technical Operations Department’s technicians, including training, evaluation, work assignments and scheduling.
  • Regular attendance during normal scheduled hours is required. Being present is essential for serving customers and performing the essential functions of this position.
  • Other duties as assigned by Dean or Associate Dean of SWD.

Marginal Job Functions

  • Promptly communicate and coordinate with academic lab faculty regarding equipment and/or lab issues as they arise.
  • Produce quality RFP’s for SWD academic equipment and services by following proposal writing standards including readability, consistency, and tone; evaluate proposals and provide award recommendations.
  • Manage the SWD Lab equipment repair ticket system.
  • Establish, develop and monitor equipment and vehicle maintenance requirements.
  • Develop service/maintenance plans, priorities, and schedules for the SWD academic labs; establish quality and service expectations for maintenance technicians.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS
Education/License

? Bachelor’s Degree in manufacturing, Applied Technology or related or significant commensurate experience.
? National Career Readiness Certificate (NCRC) preferred.

Work Experience
Must possess five (5) or more years of progressively responsible leadership experience in technical field managing equipment acquisition, maintenance, and logistics. Competencies

Equipment Use/Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Demonstrated project management ability (prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously).
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in coordinating and communicating with internal faculty and staff, internal departments like Facilities and IT, vendors, contractors, etc.
  • Ability to manage, plan, and execute maintenance programs including assigning and scheduling work activities for maintenance technicians.
  • Proficient with AutoCAD, Microsoft Office and Google Suites (advanced spreadsheet and database skills desired), and the ability to learn College financial software (Peoplesoft).
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in obtaining quotes, pricing, and procurement of equipment and repair/replacement parts.
  • Demonstrated ability in preparation of bid documents, requests for proposals and quotes (RFP, RFQ) and other technical documents and writing.
