SCOPE OF WORK: Provides supervisory safety coverage for RVCC through management of Campus Safety. Ensures the safety of all students, faculty, staff and guests and the protection of college property and facilities by enforcing fire, safety and security laws and policies. This is a part-time position and reports to the Chief Accounting Officer.
** This person will be securing the Claremont Campus at closing time. The schedule will vary based on course schedule each semester with an estimated closing time between 5pm to 10pm. Shift differential included.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Directs the operation of the security office and supervises, trains, schedules, and evaluates Campus Safety Officers;
  • Ensures that the campus is properly secured upon closing and sets the security system after ensuring that all faculty, staff, and students have safely exited the building;
  • Ensures orderly behavior among students, faculty, staff and visitors;
  • Counsels and informs students of their legal rights and responsibilities;
  • Conducts routine inspection and testing of burglar and fire alarm systems/devices to insure they are working properly;
  • Cooperates with law enforcement agencies in all matters of security, including sexual assault, drug and other criminal violations on campus;
  • Cooperates with local fire department and state fire marshal office in the investigation of all fire related issues and arsons on campus;
  • Conducts investigations concerning RVCC policy violations
  • Ensures proper documentation and reporting pursuant to the Clery Act;
  • Develops and implements safety programs and conducts reviews of safety conditions to ensure compliance with applicable safety and health standards and regulations and maintains documentation and records of safety and health conditions;
  • Provides training to students and staff regarding safety and security standards, policies, procedures, protocols,
  • Oversees video cameras, video monitors and duress alarms in all campus buildings and grounds, conducts fire drills;
  • Works with all other departments/constituents on campus, as needed, to ensure the safety and well-being of all, students, faculty, staff and visitors;
  • Complies with all college, system, state and federal rules and regulations;
  • Serves as a member of the Safety Committee;
  • Maintains confidentiality;
  • Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Education: Graduation from high school, G.E.D. or its equivalent. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.
  • Experience: Three years' experience in police work, two years of which must have been in a supervisory capacity in law enforcement.
  • License/Certification: Valid driver’s license.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • A thorough character investigation and reference check will be made before appointment. Candidates who do not have good character or a conviction free record of serious offenses will be ineligible for appointment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Current CPR/AED and basic first aid certification.
RECOMMENDED WORK TRAITS
Considerable knowledge of law enforcement activities and familiarity with the laws pertaining to this field. Knowledge of laws and regulations concerning arrest and evidence. Knowledge of modern police methods and procedures. Some knowledge of the principles and practices of police supervision. Ability to enforce laws firmly and tactfully and to interrogate subjects in accordance with standard procedures. Ability to obtain information through interviews and to maintain effective working relationships with subordinate personnel and the general public. Ability to manage a work unit and to have good working relationships with various employees within the agency to which the position is assigned. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Ability to cope with crisis situations using physical force as needed. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college appointing authority.
