Curriculum Development Specialist

Working Hours:

Working hours for this position consist of a 7.5 hour period exclusive of a ½ or 1 hour lunch over a 5 day work week. These hours will be agreed upon by the supervisor and the employee at the onset of employment. Note: This position may require the employee to work one or two evenings per week depending upon the needs of the department. The employee may be required to work occasional Saturdays and the employee has the option to work these hours, in addition to or in lieu of regular hours.

Summary:

The Curriculum Development Specialist will work collaboratively with a team of Career Training & Community Education instructors/ RACC professionals to create/manage curriculum and services, build custom training curriculum, identify and pilot innovative trainings and/or services, accomplish the growth of solutions-based strategies that provide employee-centered support to Healthcare and Business sectors and related businesses in the Greater Reading region counties (~50-mile radius). The Curriculum Development Specialist will be responsible for non-credit Career Training curriculum development, custom training curriculum development, and open enrollment programs and services. The Curriculum Development Specialist will support as necessary non-credit Career Training & Community Education curriculum/ grant initiatives. The Curriculum Development Specialist will assist in strengthening relationships/ partnerships with RACC departments and employers.

The Curriculum Development Specialist will be responsible for all aspects of project management, including the planning, implementation, communication and marketing, and assisting with data collection, input, and analysis. The Curriculum Development Specialist will provide good leadership, supervision and business sense to the division team and direct reports. This position reports directly to the Executive Director, Career Training & Community Education.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Understand, identify and anticipate the diverse needs of healthcare & business industry (soft-skills, workforce & technical).
  • Participate in or facilitate curriculum review committees.
  • Set expectations for which parts of the curriculum must be covered within the school year.
  • Stay informed of trends in instructional methods and educational technology.
  • Assist teachers in incorporating new technology into their lessons.
  • Provide feedback to teachers based on individual observation and student performance data.
  • Creating, develop, adapt and construct competency-based training and assessment for adult learners.
  • Assess and discuss curriculum standards.
  • Research trends in instructional methods and educational technology.
  • Review and recommend textbooks and other educational materials.
  • Develop procedures for teachers to implement curriculum.
  • Train teachers and other instructional staff in new content or technology.
  • Mentor or coach teachers in skill improvement.
  • Plan, organize, and conduct training conferences and workshops.
  • Organize, implement, and supervise curricula.
  • Research and recommend to Executive Director, Career Training & Community Education new programs/services that have potential to increase enrollment and sales revenue.
  • Expand and revise non-credit courses and programs in the RACC Workforce Tabloid.
  • Provide assistance in developing workforce development grants and the administration of resources from relevant funding streams, e.g., grants, business and industry donations, Foundation for RACC.
  • Perform Career Training non-credit program assessment and review.
  • Perform management duties: analyze project requirements, investigate project needs and identify required resources including: Develop detailed project plans including key performance indicators, activities, timelines and action items.
  • Conduct project meetings including taking meeting notes, communicating assignments and monitoring progress.
  • Coach and develop team members in support of the achievement of the project.
  • Manage multiple projects according to plan to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Supervise custom training instructors.
  • Prepare and submit monthly, annual and periodic reports including fiscal data, as required.
  • Coordinate workforce development, economic development and educational events hosted on or off-campus.
  • Represent as needed the College at various training, civic, educational, and professional meetings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Executive Director, Career Training & Community Education.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Directly supervises the custom training instructors. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with RACC policies, collective bargaining agreements and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Critical Success Factors:

  • Develop a comprehensive environmental scan of local workforce training needs and recommend new training curriculum.
  • Conduct a comprehensive curriculum assessment of Career Training program courses.
  • Effectively supervise the Career Training custom training instructors.

Qualifications:

Education and/or Experience

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent from an accredited 4-year college or university required
  • Three years’ curriculum/ training development and project management experience in business and industry
  • Three years’ supervisory experience required

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience in Adult Organizational Development or Industrial Organizational Development
  • Experience working in healthcare
  • Experience managing grants
  • Knowledge related to training programs in Adult Education

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have intermediate to advanced knowledge using Internet software, Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software. Experience in Eventbrite- event creation and registration technology software a plus.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must have ready access to transportation.

Ability to write content, reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Excellent grammar, punctuation and spelling skills. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of students, instructors, college officials, officials of business and industry and the general public.

Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as gross/ net margins, discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of technical math and basic algebra.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $75,000.00 - $85,000.00 per year
