The Ski Area Management Program has a distinguished history at Gogebic Community College and is a signature program with national and international recognition. The Director of Ski Area Management provides leadership, supervision, and vision of instructional programming and ski management operations. This is an exciting opportunity to maintain tradition and lead the program into the future. This is a full-time 12-month position and the salary for this position is $67,514. This position reports to the Vice President of Academic Services for instruction and the Vice President of Business Services for Mt. Zion Recreational Complex operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Instructs the Ski Area Management (SAM) Program to include the development of curriculum, performance objectives, course outlines, course materials and texts, Syllabi and articulation agreements.
  • Develops technology and program plans; Develops or modifies the curriculum to include online, remote, or hybrid options to allow students to complete the program in a variety of ways.
  • Provides overall supervision of the Mt. Zion Recreational Complex.
  • Actively participates in student recruitment, and student retention initiatives; In concert with administration, develops and implements short, mid-range, and long-term goals for continuous improvement of the program.
  • Responsible for operational decisions that potentially can affect the health and safety of staff, students, and facility users; Operates a variety of ski operations equipment as needed to conduct effective operations.
  • Develops and maintains policies/procedures as established by regulatory agencies and best practices; Completes reports as required in a timely and accurate manner; Develops and manages budgets, recommends purchases, and maintains operational inventories.
  • Develops strong working relationships with local, regional, and national ski industry and various community partners such as supporting K-12 school programming.
  • Coordinates nationwide internship program and assists with job placement.
  • Leads and maintains advisory committee; Actively participates in assisting with promotional materials, advertising, and publicity through various media formats.
  • Serves on local, civic and/or industry organizations relevant to the position; Attends conferences, workshops and seminars as needed.
  • Performs other duties as may be assigned.

 

 

Knowledge Of/Ability To:
• Provide instructional leadership
• Teaching concepts and curriculum design
• Manage, organize, and plan
• Communicate effectively verbally and in writing
• Be proficient with Microsoft Office suite and/or other software as needed to maintain reports, records, and budgets
• Maintain successful working relationships
• Interact effectively with guests and customers
• Regulations governing ski management operations
• Change management
• The mechanical aspects of ski operations
• Blending instruction with ski operations

 

Required Qualifications:
• Associates degree with equivalent work experience with an agreement to pursue a bachelors degree as a condition upon hire
• Ski area management experience
• Instructional or training experience
• First Aid and CPR certificates
• Valid drivers license

 

Preferred qualifications
• Bachelors degree
• Two or more years experience in ski management
• Two or more years instructional/training experience
