Position Summary

NOTE: CHATTAHOOCHEE VALLEY COMMUNITY COLLEGE OBSERVES EASTERN TIME.

The primary task of an instructor at Chattahoochee Valley Community College is to instruct students in activities designed to promote intellectual growth. Essential duties and responsibilities of an instructor include commitments to students in the classroom, the teaching discipline, students outside the classroom, to the College, and to the community.

Salary: Salary level will be determined by the educational attainment and years of directly related applicable experience according to Salary Schedule D-1. The salary range for nine months for this position is $44,780-$87,562. The salary range for summer employment (3 mos.) for this position is $13,825-$27,081. This is a temporary appointment of approximately 10-12 weeks during Winter Semester 2024.

Unofficial transcripts are acceptable for application; however, the College may request official transcripts before extending an employment agreement to the successful candidate. Anticipated Start Date: WinterSemester, 2024, or as negotiated.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Other duties may be assigned by the Department Chair, Chief Academic Officer, or the President.

Commitment to Students in the Classroom:

1. Designs and administers at least three evaluations for grade determination each semester.

2. Demonstrates knowledge in teaching discipline.

3. Teaches assigned classes.

4. Meets classes for scheduled periods of time.

5. Carries out all assignments according to schedule.

6. Uses written objectives as criteria for evaluation for student performance.

7. Uses appropriate teaching-learning aids, materials, and methodologies; utilizes instructional technology to enhance the teaching and learning process.

8. Develops and delivers Web-based instruction.

9. Maintains accurate class records.

10. Prepares course syllabi and objectives in conjunction with departmental guidelines.

11. Submits syllabi to the Chief Academic Officer for approval.

12. Distributes syllabi and objectives in all classes.

Commitment to Teaching Discipline:

1. Maintains currency of professional knowledge and skills through professional development and continuing education in order to remain current in discipline and teaching techniques.

2. Masters software as needed in order to enhance instruction.

3. Demonstrates willingness to assist colleagues with instruction ideas and methodologies.

4. Participates in departmental selection of texts and teaching materials.

5. Plans, implements, and evaluates both introductory and advanced college transfer courses appropriate to the community college level speech and communications disciplines.

6. Recommends appropriate supplementary and complementary subject materials to the Learning Resources Center.

Commitment to Students Outside the Classroom:

1. Maintains appropriate office hours.

2. Serves as academic advisor in assisting students in developing educational goals.

3. Assists students in course selection.

4. Participates in all College registration activities (advance registration, New Student Experience, late registration, and drop/add).

5. Attends student functions.

6. Responds to student questions/emails in a timely manner.

Commitment to the College:

1. Maintains regular and predictable attendance.

2. Maintains a minimum of a thirty-five (35) hour work week.

3. Maintains and submits all required records and reports, including class records and reports.

4. Participates in the Colleges planning process.

5. Serves on institutional committees.

6. Attends all required academic functions (i.e., department meetings, faculty meetings, graduation, etc.)

7. Attends campus activities outside the normal work hours, whenever possible.

8. Performs duties within established time frames (i.e., submission of class/office hour forms, class rosters, course grades, reports, etc.).

9. Aggressively recruits students for the program and the College at large.

Commitment to the Community:

1. Demonstrates a willingness to serve as resource person in area of expertise for community organizations, businesses, schools, or special events.

2. Represents the institution in a positive manner.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Maintains confidentiality of identified sensitive information and departmental information.

2. Adheres to all policies and procedures set forth by the College.

3. As a Campus Security Authority (CSA), report to the official or office designated by the institution to collect crime report information, such as the campus police or security department, those allegations of Clery Act crimes that the CSA concludes were made in good faith.

4. Maintains currency of professional knowledge and skills through professional development and continuing education.

5. Interacts with and serves diverse student and employee populations in a courteous and friendly manner.

6. Adheres to College standards of professionalism and confidentiality, including courteous and friendly interaction with other CVCC employees.

7. Participates in the Colleges graduation ceremony and other College activities.

8. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Master's degree, from a regionally accredited institution, in speech, communications, or a related field, with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours or the equivalent graduate quarter hours in speech or communications. Successful teaching experience as the primary instructor in speech or communications, either in the secondary or post-secondary setting.

Ability to incorporate instructional technology innovations into the classroom curriculum. Effective oral and written communication skills; proficiency in the English language.

Competent use of the Microsoft Office suite.
