Description

The Nursing and Health Sciences Student Success Navigator will play a vital role by serving as a resource and guide that helps students navigate college successfully. This role provides intentional interventions, coaching, and support to promote student achievement. The Student Success Navigator proactively monitors student progress, implements early intervention strategies, and supplemental instruction necessary to increase student persistence, success, and completion; and ultimate success in passing the NCLEX-RN and NCLEX-PN Next-Gen exam to become licensed as professional nurses and health care practitioners.

Duties

 


1. Serves as a liaison between student services and individual students.
2. Build a positive mentoring relationship with students and work with and instruct them to resolve issues that impede their academic success.
3. Meet and communicate regularly in person, by phone, or virtually with students to provide
information, resources, and support as they progress through college.
4. Monitors student progress toward goals and proactively advise and assist students to problem-solve issues that may be barriers to achieving academic goals, persistence, attendance, and completion.
5. Collaborates with faculty in an effort to enhance student success strategies and utilize current evidence-based research to improve program learning outcomes.
6. Provides targeted outreach and hold meetings (including remote/online) with students flagged from pulse report from ATI or are identified at-risk for retention.
7. Establishes an academic success plan for at-risk students that identifies needs and provides support. Plans include but are not limited to: Goal setting, GPA recovery, study skills, test anxiety and stress management skills, time management, and connecting students to helpful resources. Assist students with connecting with wrap-around services such as financial aid, WIOA, childcare services, counseling, access services, additional tutorial services, and any other support services that will enhance student success and reduce barriers.
8. Assist faculty success coaches and other support staff in developing and utilizing communication strategies, and opportunities to empower students to communicate their needs.
9. Develops materials, conduct workshops, classroom presentations, and coordinate events to increase student success, retention, and persistence.
10. Provides supplemental instruction and study sessions to students who need extra assistance in lectures or clinical on an individual or group basis.
11. Maintains accurate documentation on students needs, remediation plans, progress, and success.
12. Assists Director and Health Sciences Office Manager with the coordination of nursing programs admission orientation sessions.
13. Maintains and update comprehensive predictor testing and remediation plan in collaboration with director and faculty and document required retention, persistence, graduation and job placement data as required by grant agency.
14. Provides assistance to director in the development and revisions of the nursing student success canvas site.
15. Attends nursing program meetings and professional development trainings as required.
16. Perform related duties as required.

 

Qualifications and Required Documents

Education:
Bachelors degree in Nursing required; Masters degree in Nursing from a
regionally accredited institution preferred.

Skills:
1. Excellent organizational and time management skills;
2. Self-directed and motivated;
3. Strong computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Office 365 and
Assessment data;
4. Strong Problem-Solving skills;
5. Strong verbal and written communication skills;
6. Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and
maintain cooperative and professional working relationships with
others;
7. Knowledge of culture and values in the local community;
8. Familiarity with the resources and wrap around services available
within the community;
9. Ability to accept responsibility for assigned tasks and meet deadlines.

Work Experience include required number of years
documented experience in a comparable/related position:
1. Minimum of three (3) years full time clinical experience as a
Registered Nurse within the last five (5) years.
2. Experience teaching, tutoring, advising, or related experience
preferred.
3. Previous teaching experience preferred, but not required.

Other Qualifications:
Unencumbered current license to practice in Mississippi, satisfy a criminal
history background check
