Job Description

 

SFCC provides a high-quality, geographically, financially and emotionally accessible education to more than 5,000 students who range from traditional college-age students to adult learners.
 

The College offers associate of arts, associate of fine arts, associate of science, and associate of applied science degrees, in addition to professional and skills certificates, noncredit courses and programs, and customized workforce development training serving a 14-county area in central Missouri with locations at Sedalia, Boonville, Clinton, Eldon, Lake of the Ozarks, Jefferson City, Whiteman Air Force Base, and online.
 

Position Purpose: 
Under the supervision of the Vice President of Academic and Student Success, the Dean of Technical Education and Workforce Innovation is the leader and administrator of Career Education degrees and college credit/technical certificates. Serves as the Colleges representative for these programs with state agencies, councils and committees. Provides administrative leadership and guidance and monitors the effectiveness of instruction and learning within the areas of Career and Technical Education and Workforce Innovation. Includes leadership for the college credit Associate of Applied Science degree and certificate academic programs, for the secondary school career and technical programs at the colleges collocated Career and Technical Center, and the non-credit personal interest, continuing education, and customized business/industry training through the colleges premier Learning Force.

 

 

Essential Job Functions:

 
  • Serves as the College's principal administrator for workforce/career/technical programs, collaborating closely with the President, Vice President, and other Academic Deans and Associate Deans.
  • Provides leadership for the management of the Division of Technical Education and Workforce Innovation programs, to include initiative in maintaining and improving the quality of instruction and attainment of student learning outcomes.
  • Prepares, updates, and recommends changes and improvements regarding academic programs, textbooks and curriculum for the Division of Technical Education and Workforce Innovation programs.
  • Prepares, updates, and recommends new and revised student learning outcomes, course objectives, and competencies for the Division of Technical Education and Workforce Innovation programs.
  • Establishes and monitors appropriate instructional standards for the Division of Technical Education and Workforce Innovation.
  • Plans for and conducts degree and certificate program reviews.
  • Continuously monitors and stays up to date with industry partners regarding standards, trends and best practices in Colleges service area to encourage career-ready and innovative educational experiences for students.
  • Actively engages in professional development activities, such as attending conferences, webinars, and workshops to stay current with evolving standards, practices, and regulations.
  • Assists in preparing applications for grants, implements and oversees grant activities, and monitors budget expenditures in conformance with the terms of approved grant funded initiatives in the Division of Technical Education and Workforce Innovation programs.
  • Reviews student evaluations of full-time faculty and adjunct faculty assigned to the Division of Technical Education and Workforce Innovation programs and provides appropriate recommendations regarding the feedback received from students.
  • Prepares annual performance evaluations for all Division of Technical Education and Workforce Innovation programs staff and full-time faculty and is the secondary supervisor for adjunct faculty assigned to the Division of Technical Education and Workforce Innovation.
  • Collaborates with Division Chairs, Program Directors, and full-time faculty to develop course schedules, design new programs, and revise courses within the Division of Technical Education and Workforce Innovation.
  • Prepares, implements, and evaluates unit objectives for the Colleges Strategic Plan using existing strategic planning software and provides updates and use of results on an ongoing basis.
  • Initiates and reviews budget requests prepared for the Division of Technical Education and Workforce Innovation programs, and serves as the budget supervisor for all accounts assigned to the Division of Technical Education and Workforce Innovation programs.
  • Coordinates academic matters for the Division of Technical Education and Workforce Innovation programs and for programs and non-credit courses offered by the LearningForce.
  • Recommends the establishment of appropriate technical advisory committees and their membership. Initiates and supervises suitable action on input and advice by the technical advisory committees. Assures College representation and leadership on the technical advisory committees.
  • Serves as a member of the President's Executive Leadership Team (ELT), and other assigned committees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education/Experience:

 
  • Required is a Bachelors Degree with a minimum of five (5) years combined teaching and/or management experience, preferably within higher education.
  • Prefer candidates with:
    • Master's degree in Career and Technical Education or related field from a regionally accredited institution of higher education.
    • Successful teaching and administrative experiences in community college, technical school, university or corporate technical education programs.
    • Experience with state and federal technical programs, grants and regulations that affect technical and career education.
    • Experience in innovative workforce program development.
    • Experience with internal and external collaboration.
    • Experience with program evaluation and assessment.
    • Experience with personnel and budget management.
    • Experience with continuous quality improvement

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to multi-task, proven ability to supervise faculty and staff.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to interact verbally in person, over the telephone, and via written and electronic media.
  • Ability to move about campus and other locations.
  • Ability to sit or stand for prolonged periods of time.
