The Highline Community Pantry (HCP) provides fresh foods, grocery items, hygiene products, and conducts cooking demonstrations as well as other collaborative events for the diverse Highline College students, faculty, staff, and alumni. The HCP officially launched fall quarter of 2018 and has since become a signature service for the campus serving hundreds of people weekly.

The Highline Community Pantry Manager works to ensure that Pantry operations are efficient, that services are delivered with the utmost quality and effectiveness to support visitors with vital access to relevant foods. The Pantry Manager plans and successfully executes frequent events in collaboration with other departments to include food justice workshops, food demonstrations, and community partner tabling for the campus community. The Community Pantry Manager serves as the primary contact person for essential partnerships with community-based organizations by demonstrating excellent communication skills and community relationship stewardship.

This is a salaried overtime-eligible, at-will position. Schedule: M-F 8:30.a.m.-5:30.p.m., one evening shift per week, occasional Weekends.

Essential Tasks

Reporting to the Director of Student Success, this position will:

  • Coordinate and collaborate with on and off campus partners to ensuring culturally relevant foods are procured,
  • Deliver excellent service to Community Pantry visitors and maintain relationships with Food Bank and farm partners and other stakeholders;
  • Coordinate volunteer staff schedules using online tools and in-person supports including tracking hours for class credits;
  • Comply with standards set forth by the WA State Department of Health and excel in other health and cleanliness related matters;
  • Facilitate daily operations and provide direct service to Community Pantry visitors including people from various diverse backgrounds;
  • Maintain and provide timely and accurate data;
  • Co-lead the Student Success Committee with the Benefits Hub Program Manager;
    recruit, hire, and on-board student employees and Pantry AmeriCorps members;
  • Provide informational presentations to students and staff and facilitate workshops with students;
  • Create and maintain accurate marketing materials virtually, printed and with webpage maintenance;
  • Obtain Food Protection Manager Certification;
  • Ensure weekly Snack Station deliveries are completed;
  • Update and maintain Community Pantry Manual;
  • Monitor Community Pantry requests from campus community;
  • Partner with students on advancing student needs and Pantry goals;
  • Attend regular meetings with United Way of King County (UWKC) for pilot program implementation and Hunger Free Campus strategies;
  • Implement equitable processes, methods, skills and programs in relation to food insecurities;
  • Achieve food access intervention goals and monitor progress quarterly;
  • Contribute to grant applications and implementation processes if/when selected.
Ability to:
  • Obtain Food Protection Manager Certification;
  • Communicate effectively (verbal and written) with people of varying English proficiencies;
  • Speak publicly to groups of people;
  • Proficiently use Microsoft Office Suite, especially Word, Excel and Access;
  • Provide excellent attention to detail and ability to meet multiple deadlines;
  • Update marketing materials;
  • Problem solve for daily and sustainable long-term solutions;
  • Work independently to perform multiple tasks;
  • Demonstrate flexible leadership with attention to detail and strong quality standards;
  • Provide superb customer service;
  • Honor the diversity and inclusiveness standard set by Highline College and nurture a respectful environment to all utilizing the community pantry;
  • Plan events that are thoughtfully organized, well attended, and drive forth the mission of the campus and the Pantry.
Knowledge of:
  • Food insecurity causes, concepts, and relevancy amongst college populations;
  • Food justice concepts particularly within South King County;
  • The mission of Highline College and its support to student success;
  • Food safety requirements.

 

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • Associate's Degree; AND
  • 4 years' experience working within the food justice field;
OR
  • Bachelor's Degree; AND
  • 2 years' experience working within the food justice field.
Desired:
  • Ability to speak, read, write more than one language;
  • 2 years' experience in the field of higher education;
  • Experience working within higher education supporting students with non-academic services such as food/housing insecurity, financial coaching, or wrap-around services;
  • Project management experience.
