Los Angeles Trade Technical College is in search of a highly innovative, motivated and dynamic individual seeking to become Dean of Student Services overseeing Admissions and Records, Counseling, Transfer Center, Umoja, and Puente. ​The Dean of Student Services will provide leadership in the areas of supervision in support of our Pathway to Academic, Career, and Transfer Success (PACTS) student success framework. This position is expected to start February 12, 2024.

ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Masters degree from an accredited college or university.

·         Completion of one year of full-time formal training, internship or leadership experience reasonably related to the administrative assignment.

·         Sensitivity to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS

Health:  A medical certificate indicating fitness to engage in administrative work is required for new employees at the applicants expense after selection and prior to employment. 

COVID 19 VACCINATION

Pursuant to LACCD Board of Trustee's Policy 2900, all students and employees must be fully vaccinated or have an approved exemption.  LACCD employees are required to provide their vaccination status in compliance with the LACCD Board of Trustees policy.  Newly hired employees will be required to provide their vaccination status prior to starting a position or, at the latest, by their position start date.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

·         Experience with similar student support programs in a community college setting.

·         Accomplished in participatory management, budgeting and financial planning, strategic planning, leadership, problem solving, and team building.

·         Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, and experience with leading presentations using appropriate technological resources.

DUTIES & CORE COMPETENCIES:

1. Leads assigned areas in the re-engineering, adoption and integration of best practices to streamline processes and procedures to reduce barriers for student success.

·         Serve as Dean responsible for overseeing Counseling, Transfer Center, Career Center, Student Equity and Achievement (SEA), Umoja, Puente, LGBTQAI+, Guardian Scholars, Fresh Success, and assume the role of the Ombudsperson.

·         Provides direction, oversight and functional supervision to the faculty, staff in areas of responsibility.

·         Provides leadership to program staff to streamline processes, ensure quality in the delivery of services, and monitor enrollments and retention of program participants in Counseling, Admissions and Records, Transfer Center, Umoja, and Puente.

·         Works collaboratively with the Vice President of Student Services and Vice President of Instruction Services to bring quality Counseling and other student support services to students within the pathways framework.

·         Works cooperatively with other student services programs and services and campus entities to meet the priorities of the college including enrollment targets and student success metrics.

·         Implements effective strategies to increase student persistence.

·         Complies with local, state, and federal laws, regulations, policies, and procedures; and recommends and implements changes as needed in consultation with Vice President.

·         Safeguard the integrity of student records for areas of responsibility.

·         Prepares, disseminates and delivers reports to various campus constituency groups.

·         Performs other duties as assigned within the scope of the position.

2. Actively seeks out and identifies opportunities to enhance, develop and offer new programs, services, and activities to promote student success and generate internal and external support and resources for assigned activities and functions.

·         Stays current in issues and initiatives from federal, state and local entities and leads the implementation of these initiatives at LATTC.

·         Provides leadership for program review, including improvement and development; systematic assessment of student progress and learning outcomes; and review and recommend changes to maintain relevant programs and to meet student and community needs and accreditation standards.

·         Catalyzes involvement and commitment of students, faculty, staff, business, and community members to develop, assess, and strengthen assigned student services programs and the student experience at LATTC.

·         Maintains internal and external community communication on program progress and goals and ensures that stakeholders are kept informed about developments and plans.

3. Articulates and champions the department, division and colleges shared mission, vision, and values to students, faculty, staff, industry partners, associations and other external stakeholders.

·         Sets and attains specific and challenging goals and ensures the successful completion of objectives regardless of challenges or difficulties.

·         Creates and maintains open communications regarding resources, priorities, and expectations of assigned student success programs and personnel using multiple strategies.

·         Develops, empowers and influences faculty and staff to achieve program goals.

·         Builds and leverages networks and partnerships to advance the mission, vision, and goals of the assigned departments, programs and college to increase revenue generation.

4. Applies participatory governance principles and collective bargaining agreements in a fair and consistent manner with faculty, staff, administrators and students.

·         Oversees the hiring, managing and evaluation of staff and faculty consistent with state and local agreements, regulations and collective bargaining agreements (CBAs).

·         Prepares, monitors and manages department and program budgets.

·         Fosters an atmosphere of mutual respect and openness that will promote collaboration among students, faculty, and staff.

·         Represent Student Services and areas of responsibility on a variety of committee and subcommittees under the colleges and district shared governance structure.

5. Serves as Evening Administrator on a rotating basis. This position may require non-traditional work schedule (including evenings and weekends) and local, state and national travel.

SALARY AND BENEFITS:

The annual salary range is $166,752 to $195,792 with a doctorate degree may be eligible for a doctoral degree differential of $5,952 per academic year. Final salary placement occurs after the selected candidate has completed the hiring clearance process. ​An excellent benefits package which includes medical, vision, dental and life insurance is available for the employee and eligible dependents. ​Benefits include, 15.5 paid holidays annually, 15-24 days paid vacation annually depending on length of District service, medical/hospital, dental and vision care plans and a $50,000 group life insurance policy.
