Job Summary:

The Lansing Community College Technical Careers Division, offering over 30 programs in which we focus on providing students with high quality education and training, including significant hands-on learning opportunities, is seeking experienced, committed, and dynamic administrative personnel to assist our exceptional students, faculty, and staff. The Associate Dean will be responsible for establishing a positive, collaborative and creative environment for teaching and learning to occur in support of a diverse student, faculty and staff population. The successful candidate in this position will champion the Colleges diversity initiatives to promote diversity and inclusion within the Technical Careers Division. The incumbent is responsible for the oversight of faculty and staff processes including, but not limited to recruitment, hiring, orientation, peer review processes, assurance of proper faculty credentialing, professional development and training opportunities as well as other faculty and staff-related functions. Additionally, they are responsible for seeing that the needs, business goals and initiatives of the academic units are met in a timely manner and in alignment with division and college wide strategic directions; leading programs in the formulation of strategic tools, academic objectives that lead to desired instructional/learning outcomes; fostering continuous quality improvement in teaching and learning to advance student success, retention and completion initiatives; leading efforts in curriculum development and instructional practices that meet the existing and future needs of students and our industry partners; ensure that program level assessment, quality improvement and accreditation activities are managed and completed; provide problem-solving and conflict resolution in addressing both faculty and student concerns; serve as a member of the Technical Careers Leadership Team and represent the academic unit and division on college-wide teams and in the greater Lansing community. The Associate Dean will provide grant oversight and coordination of all current and future grants for the Technical Careers Division. They will act as primary point of contact for internal and external communications regarding current and anticipated grants. The Associate Dean must be able to make decisions based on what is best for the College as a whole and to work collaboratively with others to resolve issues, understanding that student learning needs and student success are important priorities. The successful candidate in this position will champion the Colleges diversity initiatives to promote diversity and inclusion within the Technical Careers Division. This position reports to the Dean of Technical Careers.

The Associate Dean oversees all aspects of management related to the work-based learning programs within the Technical Careers Division. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, apprenticeships, internships, co-ops, and job shadows. Other responsibilities include leadership and management of assigned staff; work with Work-Based Learning staff to develop work-based learning programs that are tailored to the employers needs; identify grant opportunities and working with staff to make application for grants, when appropriate; provide grant management oversight in relation to apprenticeships, and maintain liaisons with external agencies such as workforce development boards, state and federal apprenticeship offices, etc, and the greater Lansing community.

Regular on campus presence is expected for all LCC employment. Any flexible work schedules and/or hybrid work schedules approved by the College are subject to change based on the needs of the LCC community.


Required Qualifications:

Masters Degree or Bachelors Degree and two years of academic or comparable non-academic experience leading a unit

Demonstrated and progressive academic or comparable non-academic management experience

Professional communication skills and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.

Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment


Preferred Qualifications:

Teaching and/or management experience in a community college setting.

Demonstrated commitment to student success and the assessment of student learning
