The University of Tennessee Foundation, Inc. (UTFI) seeks a Director of Development for the College of Arts & Sciences on the University of Tennessee, Knoxville campus. Reporting to the Senior Director of Development, this position will work with department heads, faculty, staff, and external constituencies to further the college's fundraising efforts.

The Director of Development will implement the strategic direction for identifying, cultivating, and successfully soliciting individuals to support priorities for the college. This includes managing a portfolio of prospects through an active schedule of solicitation, cultivation, and stewardship calls to donors and new prospects as well as building relationships among prospective donors, alumni, and volunteers to support programs and priorities.

This position will also work with our central advancement office to ensure that potential gift prospects are properly qualified and will coordinate or write/produce appropriate fundraising materials including, but not limited to, case statements, brochures, solicitation letters, gift proposals, appreciation letters, donor reports, and campaign status reports. The minimum levels on these once fully trained and acquainted with a portfolio of prospective donors is 180 visits, 35 proposals delivered and $2.25 million in dollars raised.

Currently, the college receives approximately $10-12 million annually in dollars raised from an average of 5,000 donors. The college has set aspirational goals to increase private gift support to $16 million annually in dollars raised from 5,800 donors each year over the next five years.


Required Qualifications
• Bachelors Degree and 5 years of experience OR a Masters degree and 3 years of experience in major gift fundraising or a combination of major gift fundraising and annual giving, planned giving, volunteer management, sales, stewardship, or related experience.
• Aggressive sales mentality with the ability to provide strategic leadership.
• Strong customer service orientation; strong oral and written communications skills; customer-centered thinking.
• An individual with talents in leadership, collaboration, organization, and strategic thinking.
• Ability and willingness to travel on nights and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications
• Masters degree
• Proven experience in major gift fundraising
• Knowledge of fundraising databases
• Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets, and related software
• Ability to serve a diverse constituency
