Position Summary:
 
Position Description: The Director of Faculty Professional Development is responsible for providing visionary leadership and strategic direction in assessing and enhancing faculty members' professional development. The primary focus is on fostering engaging teaching and learning environments, ensuring excellence in teaching, support services, and instructional delivery.
 
Duties:
  • Collaborate with departments college-wide to conduct thorough assessments of faculty professional development needs, forecasting future requirements, and designing training courses and programs to meet those needs.
  • Analyze legislative and policy issues that impact faculty professional development, keeping abreast of changes that may affect the institution's ability to deliver educational and training services.
  • Lead the design and implementation of comprehensive programs aimed at supporting teaching effectiveness, including the management of departmental and event budgets.
  • Organize and lead college-wide professional development events, fostering multi-campus and multi-department participation and coordination.
  • Conduct strategic internal and external analyses of technological, structural, cultural, and institutional changes influencing faculty professional development and the institution's capacity to meet community educational needs.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for institutional accreditation and quality enhancement planning initiatives.
 
Minimum Qualifications: The successful candidate must hold a Masters degree and possess at least seven years of relevant work experience.
 
Preferred Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in a related field. Five or more years of teaching experience at the college level. Previous experience working at a multi-campus community college. Proven expertise in course design and delivery. Experience with Quality Matters and/or ACUE. Experience working independently under the general supervision of senior leadership. Background in a similar role with demonstrated proficiency in faculty development and/or program development and administration. Demonstrated initiative and leadership skills in planning and directing employees and processes to monitor and develop effective programs. Ability to collaborate effectively within a team while also excelling in individual work. Strong organizational and communication skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office. Demonstrated professionalism and ability to work efficiently under pressure.
 
Job Duties:
20%: Manages, oversees, and communicates information regarding training workshops, webinars, professional development, and special department initiatives for all faculty and staff at Hillsborough Community College.
15%: Supervises and leads all instructional design services provided to full time and part time faculty teaching in all modalities.
15%: Plans workshops and training opportunities for HCC faculty and staff related to teaching and learning.
10%: Plans and facilitates four faculty in-service days, two faculty professional development days, and one All College Day for all faculty, staff, and administrators.
10%: Manages all technology related to training and professional development including a professional development portal, a training lab, a video recording studio, and a technology tool room.
10%: Provides training support for college initiatives outside of the department (ex. First Encounter Faculty, QEP).
5%: Provides training on college-adopted programs for all faculty and staff (ex. SharePoint, EduNav, Relay).
5%: Oversees and reviews the development of online, self-paced training courses for all faculty and staff.
5%: Oversees curriculum design services for staff charged with developing student training materials.
5%: Evaluates new and emerging technologies for instruction.
 
Other Related Duties:
Oversees the ADA and Accessibility training provided to full-time and part-time faculty Manages the production of videos for other departments (e.g., Institutional Research, QEP) Provides support/staffing for the college-wide deployment of SharePoint (intranet) Provides the college-wide license of Quality Matters to be used as minimum quality standards for online course development Oversees special initiatives for faculty development including the Art of College Teaching program (for 2nd year faculty), the Hybrid Course Development Program, and the Quality Matters online course quality initiative Facilitates all department marketing communications Manages and reviews budgets for two departments.
