POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Compton Community College District is now accepting applications for anticipated part-time faculty position to teach courses with emphasis in Spanish.

 

Required Qualifications:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master's degree in Spanish; OR

Bachelor's degree in Spanish; AND

Master's degree another language or linguistics; OR

The equivalent - Candidates not possessing the required qualifications as stated above must complete the supplemental page of the district application and explain in detail how their qualifications are equivalent to those above; OR

Valid California Community College Credential in appropriate subject.

Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural disability and ethnic backgrounds of college students.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Ability to teach a second foreign language;

Recent community college teaching experience;

Demonstrated ability to develop a variety of effective teaching techniques and assessment methods;

Ability to engage student interest to support a variety of learning styles;

Ability to promote the use of instructional technology in curriculum delivery;

Effective oral and written communication skills.

 

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

SALARY RANGE: $44.79 - $72.27 per hour (depending upon education and experience)

Part-time faculty members are compensated on a semester basis according to the number of class hours assigned per semester and on cumulative semesters of instruction for the District.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

Part time teaching assignment. Assignment may included teaching during days, evenings or weekends. A teaching demonstration may be required during the interview process. Offer and acceptance of employment is subject to verification of all information provided on the employment application, credential(s), transcripts, fingerprint results, and tuberculosis examination as required. Candidates selected for employment will be required to provide verification of work authorization in the form of a passport, valid driver's license, or other equivalent identification, and social security card.

 

ENVIRONMENT:

Indoor environment.

Driving a vehicle to conduct work.

Evening or variable hours.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned essential functions of this job description are essential physical requirements. The chart below indicates the percentage of time spent on each of the following essential physical requirements.

  1. Seldom = Less than 25 percent

  2. Often = 51-75 percent

  3. Occasional = 25-50 percent

  4. Very Frequent = 76 percent and above

  1. Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations. 4

    1. Ability to sit for extended periods of time. 3

    2. Ability to see for purposes of reading printed matter and observing students. 4

    3. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels. 4

    4. Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation. 4

    5. Ability to lift 5 lbs. 1
