JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for conducting activities related to research, development, implementation, and evaluation of honors courses and programs for students at the course or seminar level to enhance the student experience. This position will expand opportunities for students to have an honors experience with particular emphasis on part-time students and special populations. This position is currently a 2-year grant-funded role that reports to the Assistant Director of Student Engagement.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Coordinate, implement, and evaluate the Carroll Lynx Scholars Program, an honors program designed to accommodate part-time and dual enrollment students.
  • Build relationships with faculty to create high impact practices and enhance course options at the honors level.
  • Create, plan, and implement marketing and recruitment strategies to develop enrollment pipelines for all honors programs.
  • Prepare and conduct recruitment sessions and presentations to increase participation in all honors options at the College.
  • Develop rapport and maintain strong relationships with high school students and dual-enrollment population to support a robust enrollment pipeline.
  • Meet with students interested in honors-level work to assist with course options and selection.
  • Maintain strong relationships with the advising, career, transfer, and admissions offices to support student advising and success.
  • Collaborate with students and faculty on existing honors societies and programming.
  • Support the department with New Student Orientation, Welcome Week activities, and athletic efforts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM WORK:

    • Bachelors degree
    • Masters degree in higher education, counseling, education or related field preferred
    • Two years experience in advising, working with honors students, course or curriculum development, or experiential learning
    • Excellent communication skills: including comfort in public speaking, ability to interact with a diverse student body and faculty
    • Ability to use computers for word processing and/or accounting purposes
    • Ability to use small office equipment (copier/fax/scanner etc.)
  • Willing to work occasional evenings and weekends for recruitment, conferences, and retreats for students

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

The work is normally light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Periodically, it requires standing for longer periods of time during presentations, etc. Additionally, the following physical abilities are required:

    • Hear/talk/communicate – Must be able to exchange information and communicate
    • Visual Acuity - Ability to perceive or detect surroundings
    • Mental Acuity – Able to focus, concentrate, understand, and convey subject matter
    • Repetitive motion (i.e., keyboarding)
  • Stand/sit/walk/able to move or traverse from one area to another

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

College campus, direct contact with students, staff, faculty and the general public in classrooms, common areas, offices, and campus environments. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts which require normal safety precautions typical of such places as office, meeting, and training rooms; use of safe workplace practices with office equipment; computers for data entry and word processing with highly technical applications/complex software and new technology systems; avoidance of trips and falls; observance of fire and building safety regulations and College policies. Work hours may vary as assigned by supervisor (generally 20 hours per week).
