GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:
This is a part-time position (27.5 hours per week) located on the Emmetsburg Campus. Primary responsibilities include test proctoring for both credit and non-credit students, assisting students enrolled in developmental education courses, coordinating peer tutors, and occasional assistance with advising and registration. Organizational skills, multi-tasking, and an unwavering commitment to student and customer service are critical in this position. Some evening and weekend work may be required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES (% OF THE TIME):

Constant (67-100%)

  • Proctor university and college exams, as well as continuing education or certification exams.
  • Proctor Accuplacer placement exams.
  • Interpret and enter placement test scores in Ellucian.
  • Accurately answer questions related to college admittance, testing requirements, program course requirements or other services offered through the college or Success Center.
  • Interpret and explain placement test scores to students and advisors.
  • Maintain progress reports and student records/files.

Frequent (34-66%)

  • . Administer HISET official practice exams for high school equivalency students.
  • Tutor students in developmental math, writing, and student success courses.
  • Assist with coordination and scheduling for peer tutoring program.
  • Assist with data collection and data analysis for various academic

Occasional (10-33%)

  • Complete required training to proctor various exams.
  • Communicate with students enrolled in both credit and non-credit
  • Be present for campus visit days, orientation days, or other events.
  • Work collaboratively with Director of Academic Success on daily tasks or new projects.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Ability to effectively work with under-prepared and at-risk students.
  • Ability to monitor students in a testing environment and discuss any issues that may arise.
  • Possess a working knowledge of personal computers and educational media equipment.
  • Be a self-starter, with the ability to efficiently manage and perform multiple takes in an environment of frequent interruptions.
  • Represent the college in a positive manner to employees, students, visitors, and the general public.
  • Enthusiastic and energetic in job performance; maintaining high standards of ethics, honesty, and integrity in assigned duties and responsibilities.
  • Ability to assume responsibility and deal effectively with problems, exercising good judgment when making decisions.

SPECIAL DEMANDS:

Sedentary to light work. Position mostly involves moving about the Success Center to individually assist students. Talking, hearing, viewing various types of close visual work, and repetitive motion, constantly (67-100%). Stooping, kneeling, crouching, pushing, pulling, carrying and repetitive motion frequently (34-66%). Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally (10-33%).

Employment with Iowa Lakes Community College is dependent upon successful passage of a criminal background check. Must be legally eligible to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelors Degree required. Preferred fields include education, English, or mathematics. Knowledge of correct English usage, grammar, punctuation, and/or basic mathematics/algebra skills strongly preferred.

Salary: $22.10 per hour
