Instructor, Dietetics and Nutrition
 
Job Description:
The Instructor of Dietetics and Nutrition is charged with full-filling the teaching responsibilities for Dietetics, Nutrition and closely related fields within the Food, Nutrition and Hospitality Department. Duties include but are not limited to classroom instruction, curriculum revision, preparation of detailed syllabi and course material, student assessment, record keeping including attendance and grading, and other duties as assigned.
Essential Functions:
  • Refer to Article 7 of the OFA Contract.
Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills:
  • Faculty in Dietetics and Nutrition must demonstrate competency in the practice of Dietetics and the application of evidenced-based nutrition concepts through professional work experience, graduate education, continuing education and other activities leading to professional growth.
  • Knowledge in macro and micronutrients, human physiology and metabolism, life-cycle nutrition requirements, energy calculations, population guidelines for healthy eating and medical nutrition therapy.
  • Effective communication skills both oral, visual and written.
  • Strong listening skills.
  • Organizational, time-management and problem-solving skills.
  • Adaptability in teaching methods to accommodate a diverse student body.
  • Ability to use Word, PowerPoint and other document or presentation software.
  • Ability to use other computer hardware and software to support the classroom environment and online learning platform.
  • Ability to gather and evaluate information systematically. Use of research skills, analytical and logic reasoning.
  • Ability to communicate in different forms in order to present lecture/course material.
  • Ability to reason and problem solve.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods quickly in the classroom to promote learning.
  • Manage multiple classes, academic or department work and student needs timely.
  • Ability to actively and productively work within a team.
  • Ability to recognize strengths and weaknesses and provide respectful discussion with student or co-worker.
Minimum Requirements:
  • Master's degree.
  • Five years working experience as a Registered Dietitian.
  • Must be Registered as a Dietitian by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR)
  • Must hold a State of Ohio Medical Board License to practice Dietetics.
Preferred
  • Two years' experience as a preceptor or adjunct instructor for a Dietetics, Dietary Manager or other Nutrition/food related discipline preferred.
