Job Summary

Responsible for assisting students in achieving their educational and career goals by providing career assessments and individual career counseling. Develop and present career development-related seminars in line with current NACE standards. Serve as the primary liaison for community employers. Provide transfer information, opportunities, and assistance to students.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university
  • Demonstrates skills in career exploration
  • Successfully present and lead trainings or workshops for students
  • Computer literacy, including proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
  • Able to advise students individually and in groups on complex student-related major and career matters
  • Exceptional time management skills and the ability to prioritize duties when faced with interruptions, distractions, and fluctuating workload
  • Maintain accurate records and provide detailed reporting
  • Ability to exercise initiative and work independently
  • Strong commitment to teamwork and student support
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain rapport with staff, faculty, and community agencies
  • Ability to analyze the complete situation accurately and adopt an effective course of action
  • Research, learn, and accurately provide information to students on a variety of topics
  • Excellent oral communication, customer service, and public relations skills
  • Must possess a valid Texas Drivers license, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland Colleges insurance policy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three years of related experience; preferably at a community college
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in Psychology or Social Work
  • Grant writing and administration experience
  • Career counseling/guidance experience

Essential Functions

  • Maintain an appropriate level of communication with other College departments to ensure student success while exercising utmost discretion and professional judgment
  • Direct a comprehensive career development program for students and alumni, including conducting career assessments, providing career counseling and guidance
  • Serve as a source of career, employer, and labor market information to the college community
  • Maximize use of career exploration software
  • Communicate available job postings to appropriate department chairs
  • Develop and present workshops and classes addressing the career needs as outlined by NACE standards
  • Promote services of the Career Center through direct communication and the use of digital and social media
  • Work directly with community agencies focused on career preparedness
  • Interact effectively with students of diverse socioeconomic, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds
  • Develop and manage relationships with universities to assist students in transferring
  • Organize and host transfer fairs, seminars, and workshops
  • Must be able to work occasional evenings to meet student needs
  • Serve on college committees as appropriate
  • Participate in continuing education, professional and personal development opportunities
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move or drive to other locations on and off campus
  • This position may require occasional travel for training, meetings, and events both in and out of town
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
  • Use of manual dexterity
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
  • Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 20 pounds
  • Duties indoors and some outdoors

Security Sensitivity

All Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. An employment offer is contingent on completion of a satisfactory criminal background investigation.

Min Salary

$46,000 per year (annualized salary)

Max Salary

$50,000 per year (annualized salary)

Pay Statement

Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
