Tutor – Sociology, Tutoring Center (Part-time)
 
Overview:
The Sociology Tutor is a resource for students Sociology courses within Cincinnati State curriculum. Sociology Tutors help students to develop the skills necessary for success in traditional and online courses in Sociology.
 
Essential Duties:
  • Assist students in completing classwork and projects
  • Coordinate with classroom instructors to target challenges on a student-by-student basis
  • Help students to develop productive work habits
  • Support students with test preparation
  • Assist students in developing skills to support courses in Sociology
  • Create and deliver Sociology workshops if necessary
  • Provide outreach to the college community to raise awareness of the Tutoring Center and its services.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors degree in Sociology or similar field or Bachelors degree in another field with three years of proven success as an Sociology instructor or tutor
  • Strong written and oral communication Skills
  • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse population
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Masters degree in Sociology
  • Experience as a classroom-instructor or tutor
  • Community College teaching or tutoring experience
  • Experience working in an individualized learning center
  • Familiarity with Cincinnati State portal, website, learning management system
Skills, Abilities and Qualities:
  • Self-motivated with a strong sense of teamwork. Reliable. Strong communication skills.
Details:
Reports to: Dean of Humanities and Sciences
Minimum Hourly rate: $22/hour
Contractual Affiliation: Non-bargaining
Exempt Classification: Non-Exempt
Status: Part time (Not to exceed 29 hours per week.)
