Assistant Women's Soccer Coach (Part-Time)
Job Description
This position requires an individual who is capable of applying the knowledge and experiences relevant to coaching collegiate soccer. This employee is responsible for assisting with the coaching and supervision of the soccer team, recruiting, academic progress, community service, and travel. This person works under the direction of the Head Womens Soccer Coach. The employee must be sufficiently flexible to be able to relate effectively with a wide variety of students and individuals in the collegiate environment. The focus of the Western athletic department is on strong ethical & academic expectations, providing an education environment that helps build leadership and life skills, and offers athletes a positive athletic experience.
The College expects this individual to accomplish assigned duties in an efficient, effective and competent manner and to strive for improvement and excellence in all work performed. Additionally, this individual must understand the comprehensive role of the community college and cooperate and work harmoniously with college personnel and the public. This individual will follow all college policies, rules, regulations and guidelines as they relate to this position.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR WHICH THIS EMPLOYEE IS ACCOUNTABLE UNDER THE LEADERSHIP OF THE HEAD WOMENS SOCCER COACH
1. Assists with the day-to-day operations of the program.
2. Assists with the training of student-athletes. Help with individual skills and team concepts.
3. Assists with planning and attends all practices, in-town matches, conditioning sessions, and tryouts.
4. Helps with identification, assessment, and recruitment of qualified student-athletes.
5. Assists with supervision of academic progress and study hall sessions.
6. Assists with supervision during community service activities.
7. Assists with the planning and coordination of summer camps.
8. Provides an example of leadership and competitive but sportsmanlike conduct.
9. Assists with the enforcement of team discipline and conduct.
10. Becomes familiar with and implements all necessary college policies, rules, regulations and guidelines as they relate to this position, including student rights and responsibilities concerning harassment of any kind and drug and alcohol use.
11. Communicates and enforces college policies concerning the conduct of student-athletes, including that required as a condition for retaining their athletic grant awards, maintaining the right to participate with the team, and retaining college privileges.
12. Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (knowledge, abilities, education and experience)
1. Associates degree.
2. Previous soccer coaching experience.
3. Soccer experience which demonstrates a thorough knowledge of the concepts, techniques, principles, and strategies of soccer.
4. Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
5. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
6. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, faculty, administrators and other members of the college community.
7. Strong level of integrity and ethical approach to student athletics.
8. Ability to interact effectively with high school and club coaches, prospective student-athletes and their parents.
Equivalency: one or more of these minimum qualifications may be waived if the proper combination of education and experience is deemed to be present.
PREFERRED ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS (knowledge, abilities, education, and experience)
1. Bachelors degree.
2. Successful experience as a womens soccer coach.
3. Successful experience as a coach and/or player at the college level.
4. Knowledge of NJCAA, NCAA and WCCAC rules and regulations.
5. A basic understanding of and experience in exercise physiology and general physical fitness programs.
6. Experience coaching and/or playing Goalkeeper(s) at the collegiate level.
