Job Title- SPECIALIST-ACCOUNTING
Position Status- Full Time
Classification Title- Classified-12 m-Level IV
Work Location- Main Campus-3600 N. Garfield, Midland, TX
Job Summary- Enter & reconcile fixed assets and non-capital inventory items, data entry of accounting transactions, prepare interdepartmental charges, prepare monthly sales tax report, prepare unclaimed property, review W-9s, prepare 1099s, prepare imputed fringe report, and maintain general ledger access and approval maintenance.
Required Qualifications
- Associate Degree or equivalent (60 college credit hours) with at least 6 hours in accounting; or high school diploma (or equivalent) and minimum of two years of experience in accounting, bookkeeping, or banking
- Computer proficiency to include experience creating and maintaining spreadsheets in Excel
- Proficient 10-Key operation and basic data entry skills
- Attention to detail, accuracy, Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Self-motivated with the ability to multi-task
- Good listening and communication skills

Essential Functions
- Maintain fixed asset inventory system for the college including entering fixed asset additions, disposals and transfers, facilitate annual fixed asset inventory, review inventory submissions and perform fixed asset inventory audits of selected departments
- Reconcile asset additions to accounts payable records to ensure that all additions are included in the fixed asset system
- Enter journal entries, budget adjustments, and other accounting transactions into the accounting system
- Reconcile and prepare monthly sales tax report
- Maintain the imputed fringe report
- Review W-9s for Midland College and the Midland College Foundation
- Prepare, file, and print 1099 annually for Midland College and Midland College Foundation
- Prepare interdepartmental charges for photocopies, media charges, and supplies
- Prepare unclaimed property reports and maintain subsidiary of unclaimed checks
- Reconcile assigned general ledger accounts
- Maintain general ledger account permissions and approval tracks
- Assign copy codes
- Assign long distance codes
- Print Accounts Payable, Student Refund, and Midland College Foundation checks on a backup basis
- Prepare daily cash balance report and review positive pay on a backup basis
- Record Foundation donations and enter invoices on a backup basis
- Other duties as assigned
Physical Demands
- Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
- Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
- The person in this position needs to move to other locations on campus occasionally
- Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
- Use of manual dexterity
- The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
- Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 20 pounds
- Duties indoors and some outdoors
- Office environment
- Ability to work extended hours and attend Midland College or community events
Security Sensitivity- All Midland College positions are security-sensitive and subject to Texas Education Code §51.215, which authorizes the employer to obtain criminal history record information. An employment offer is contingent on completion of a satisfactory criminal background investigation.
Min Salary- $2,661.58 per month
Max Salary- $2,661.58 per month
