Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Military and Veterans Services, the Assistant Director of Military and Veterans Services will assist in the development of programs and ongoing on-campus initiatives in support of the military/veteran/dependent/student community.
The Assistant Director plays a pivotal role in supporting military-affiliated students and veterans within our University community. This individual will provide compassionate assistance, guidance, and resources to ensure these students successful integration, academic achievement, post-graduation outcomes, and well-being.
We are looking for a mature individual with strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work independently, and someone who will empathize and connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Essential Functions
Student Support:
- Offers personalized assistance to military-affiliated students and veterans navigating university policies, procedures, and resources.
- Provides counseling, mentorship, and advocacy to address this student populations unique challenges and needs.
- Conducts regular check-ins to monitor students progress, address concerns, and provide ongoing support throughout their academic journey.
- Serves as the advisor to the Student Veterans of America at Fordham (SVAF) Chapter and manages and advises the SVAF on the student veterans budget.
- Serves as the ombudsperson for the veterans in dealing with the VA benefits, especially regarding benefits and the prompt provision of the scholarship money to which they are entitled.
Program Development and Management:
- Oversees the work-study staff and operations of the Veterans Resource Center.
- Develops and implements programs and initiatives tailored to the needs of military and veteran students, including transition support, academic success workshops, and social events.
- Trains and supervises VA Work-Study students as per the VA guidelines.
- Maintains and submits the Work-Study students time records and paperwork.
Internal Support and Education:
- Conducts outreach activities to increase awareness of available services and resources for military-affiliated students and veterans.
- Organizes informational sessions and workshops for faculty, staff, and students to foster understanding and support for this populations unique experiences and challenges.
- Oversees the coordination of administrative tasks related to military and veterans services, including record-keeping, data analysis, and reporting.
- Assists in developing and managing the departmental budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources to support program goals.
- Supports OMVS and its mission connected to ROTC, Alumni Relations, Career Services, Community Engagement, and other programs as needed.
Outreach and transition assistance:
- Assists the Director of Military & Veterans Higher Education Engagement & Transition with recruiting efforts, including maintaining prospect and lead spreadsheets, engaging with prospective students, attending events, providing research, and collaborating on projects

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree
- Minimum of 2 years of experience working with military-affiliated populations and non-profits, preferably in a higher education setting.
Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills
- Knowledge of military culture, benefits, and resources available to veterans and military families.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities effectively.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with a demonstrated understanding of the challenges underrepresented groups face in higher education.
- Demonstrated effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects independently and effectively.
- Preferred Qualifications
- Masters degree preferred in counseling, student affairs, social work, or a related field.
- Familiarity with federal and state regulations governing services for military and veteran students (e.g., GI Bill, VA benefits).
- Certification or licensure in counseling, social work, or an interest in those fields is a plus.
- Military service or affiliation is ideal
- Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.
Minimum Starting Salary: $63,000
Maximum Starting Salary: $74,000
Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
