Position Summary

Reporting to the Associate Director for Young Alumni & Student Engagement, the Assistant Director for Young Alumni & Student Engagement works to engage our 200,000+ alumni around the globe.

 

They help facilitate meaningful connections between them and the university and engage our student population through connection with the alumni community.

 

This position requires occasional travel and evening/weekend work.

 

Essential Functions         

  • Identifies new and creative ways to engage students throughout their four years, works to ensure a smooth transition from student to grad, collaborates with the Fordham Fund to increase student education about philanthropy, attends student club meetings and events, acts as a resource for student governments, club leaders, and student volunteers, and assists with young alumni events and activities, particularly those that also involve students.
  • Continues building the Student Alumni Ambassadors program: a student-led group designed to strengthen the ties between current students and alumni.
  • Co-leads the Fordham Mentorship Program in liaison with the Career Center. This includes planning events, matching and recruiting mentors/mentees, and creating a monthly newsletter of resources to assist in creating a deeper connection.
  • Builds and maintains relationships with staff members in the Office for Student Involvement, the Career Center, and relevant academic departments.
  • Participates in and/or coordinates events and programs surrounding current students including, but not limited to, club fairs, Senior Transitions events, Senior Week activities, Heritage Reception, and Commencement.
  • Supports the Associate Director with all DAUR initiatives involving young alumni and current undergraduate students.
  • Liaises with the Young Alumni Committee (YAC) and recommends alumni for deeper involvement in the life of the university.
  • Assists with the creation and scheduling of email communications.
  • Participates in advancement activities and events, including dinners, receptions, committee meetings, etc.
  • Recommends changes to existing policies and procedures that will improve organizational performance.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience         

  • Bachelors degree in liberal arts, public relations, communications, or related field, preferably from a Jesuit institution.
  • Minimum of one year of related experience in Alumni Relations, Student Involvement or similar work-related fields

 

Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills       

  • Ability to communicate effectively.
  • Curiosity and analytical thinking skills; complex problem-solving skills; ability to organize, prioritize, and complete multiple projects simultaneously with close attention to detail; ability to meet deadlines and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to foster strong collaborative relationships at all levels of a complex organization, professionally interacting with all levels of students, staff, faculty, and outside groups.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues in a team environment; ability and willingness to quickly learn the Universitys history, mission, demographics, faculty, current programs, departments, and culture.
  • Comfort using personal computers, tablets, and software programs for retrieving, organizing, researching, and presenting appropriate alumni information.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite and aptitude for learning new software and/or programs.
  • Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.

 

Preferred Qualifications  

  • Knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.
  • Experience with volunteer management, events, or communications.
  • Previous use of a CRM platform to support data-driven decisions.
  • Background in Student Affairs.

 

Minimum Starting Salary: $67,000

 

Maximum Starting Salary: $71,000

 

Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
