Job Summary
The Gerald R. Ford School of Public Policy seeks a Lecturer I to teach a 1.5 credit course titled Leadership through Facilitation: Guiding Collaborative Policy Discussions. This first-half semester course will be offered Winter term 2025 on Monday evenings from 6:30 - 9:20 pm, January 13 - February 24. The expected effort of the appointment is 16.67%.

This is a non-tenure track appointment.
Course Description
Leadership through Facilitation is designed to equip future public policy leaders with advanced facilitation skills essential for leading diverse teams and influencing public policy. The instructor will guide students through a curriculum focused on the theoretical and practical aspects of facilitation, enabling them to lead discussions, build consensus, and address contemporary policy challenges at multiple governmental levels.
Responsibilities*
Duties for this course include preparing and presenting lectures, case studies, and exercise for students to practice facilitation skills. The instructor is expected to hold weekly office hours, and other related course duties, as necessary. The lecturer is expected to teach core facilitation skills including active listening, question framing, conflict resolution, and designing facilitative processes tailored to policy contexts. The instructor will lead practical exercises, simulations, and discussions to help students apply facilitation techniques to real-world public policy issues such as climate change and healthcare reform.
Required Qualifications*
Applicants must have an advanced degree and a strong background in facilitation related to public policy issues or within policy-oriented institutions. Experience teaching facilitation skills at the graduate level or in a professional setting required. Demonstrated expertise and experience in navigating complex policy landscapes through collaborative processes, particularly within government. Candidates should have at least 8 years of applicable experience in a leadership role. Certification in facilitation skills preferred.
