Position Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director of Development for Arts & Sciences, the Senior Director serves as a deputy to the Executive Director and manages a cohort of gift officers.
This position is assigned ownership of specific team fundraising initiatives and collaborates with the Executive Director on others. At the discretion of the Executive Director, the Senior Director is assigned to work with academic leaders and/or the colleges, schools, and departments within the three areas of focus for the Arts and Sciences (i.e., undergraduate education, graduate education, and faculty research and development).
The Senior Director is primarily responsible for identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding individual prospects and donors to fulfill the stated and emerging academic and institutional fundraising priorities of the greater Arts and Sciences.
Travel and/or evening and weekend work is required.
Essential Functions
- Serves as the deputy to the Executive Director for the Arts and Sciences team, responsible for managing team-driven fundraising initiatives assigned by the Executive Director and generating and leading new ones complementary to the fundraising strategy for the Arts and Sciences.
- Serves as the team leader in the absence of the Executive Director, including representing the Arts and Sciences team at strategic meetings.
- Manages one or more gift officers, providing them with mentorship, leadership, and guidance on their major gift fundraising performance, portfolio management, and collaboration with academic and DAUR leadership.
- Serves as a strategic thought partner to the executive director and collaborates on the planning and execution of fundraising initiatives to support the Arts and Sciences.
- Manages a personal portfolio of approximately 100 major gift prospects within the Arts and Sciences ecosystem and strategically deploys university, division, and academic resources to maximize success.
- Devises individual engagement strategies for each prospect in their portfolio and solicits one-time and/or multi-year major-gift commitments, preferably at the $100,000+ level. Specific solicitation goals will be determined in an annual goal-setting process.
- Identifies additional opportunities to raise the profile of their assigned area with key fundraising constituents to expand the donor pipeline.
- Works closely with and is assisted by a comprehensive central development organization that supports the following areas: Telemarketing and Direct Mail targeted to individual donors; Planned Gifts; Corporate and Foundations Relations; Prospect Research; Gift System; Database Management; Alumni Relations and Communications and Marketing.

Management Responsibilities
Supervises the work of other Fordham employees who are individual contributors. Responsible for hiring, training and developing, managing performance and administering corrective action. Has significant input in compensation decisions.
Required Qualifications: Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree in business, liberal arts, or related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible development experience in a higher education setting and/or a combination of relevant experience and education, including demonstrated success at raising major gifts by developing and implementing cultivation and solicitation plans for gifts of $100,000 and above.
- Minimum of four years of supervisory experience.
Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills
- Demonstrated interpersonal and team-building skills to establish and maintain good working relationships with colleagues, faculty, donors, volunteers, and university officials, emphasizing tact, diplomacy, flexibility, collaboration, professionalism, and discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in fundraising in cause-related, religious, and/or cultural organizations.
- Successful fundraising from non-alumni/parent constituencies.
- Plus Delta certification.
- Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to the goals of Jesuit Education.
Minimum Starting Salary: $150,000
Maximum Starting Salary: $170,000
Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
