Position Description:
The Dean's Office of the College of Engineering seeks culturally and professionally diverse candidates to apply for the Financial Data Specialist position. Since its inception in 1996, the Virginia Commonwealth University College of Engineering has brought innovative, real-world engineering education to Central Virginia. Comprised of five different departments plus the Deans office, the College of Engineering enrolls more than 2,000 undergraduate and 400 graduate students in several degree programs supported by approximately 600 full-time, part-time, and student employees. The Financial Data Specialist is part of the Engineering Finance unit and will provide fiscal administrative support and excellent customer service to support the research and instruction mission of the College of Engineering. This position is part of the Engineering Finance unit, with a purpose of providing excellent customer service and support service to the research and instruction mission of the College.
- Representing the finance team for excellent in person customer support
- Answering questions from the Dean, Administrators, or Faculty
- Responsibility for the full back end financial process.
- Timely monthly reconciliation of all finance and payroll transactions
- Payroll moves
- Past, PHAREDS
- Future, PAF (Personnel Action Form)
- Journal Vouchers
- Transferring expenses
- Transferring revenues
- Allocating budget
- Management of University financial systems
- Banner
- New index creates and transfers
- Dept/Subdept creates and transfers
- Access requests
- System usage
- Finance Dashboard
- Access requests
- System usage training
- Banner
- Other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- A high level of professionalism, judgment and a proven record in an academic or related field is essential.
- Strong organizational skills
- Strong attention to detail
- Experience in sophisticated office systems, particularly strong excel skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize workload
- Demonstrated accounting and finance experience, particularly the interplay between revenue, expenses, and budget.
- Excellent customer service skills in dealing with various levels of internal and external stakeholders is required

Preferred Qualifications
- College degree in related fields of study
- Previous experience financial experience working in Higher Education
- Banner Finance and Real Source experience is preferred.
