The University Police Department at North Carolina State University is responsible for providing the most reasonable level of safety and security for the protection of life and property of students, faculty, staff and visitors of the campus community. Being a full sized police department, the department functions 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, year round with sworn officers, non-sworn full-time employees and part-time employees.
Essential Job Duties
This position will be responsible for consulting on events being planned within the jurisdiction of the University and coordinating with external partners on events being planned adjacent to it. It will also be responsible for conducting risk assessments for events and providing recommendations/requirements for staffing and threat mitigation.

- Staffing events that police services are requested or required for as appropriate based on NFPA and FEMA best practices.
- Developing and disseminating comprehensive and complete operations plans for events in a timely manner.
- Developing, coordinating and executing large scale emergency response exercises and drills for the organization
- Managing the Incident Command (ICS) responsibilities for the organization to include ICS/NIMS training

Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelors degree in communications, emergency management, public or business administration or directly related field and three years of special event and/or emergency management experience. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation.
- Candidates must have completed at minimum ICS/NIMS courses ICS 100, ICS 200, ICS 300, ICS 400, IS 700 and IS 800 level training.
- Candidates must have the ability and be certified by FEMA to teach ICS/NIMS courses 300 and 400.

- Strong time management, project management, and problem-solving skills are required.
- Demonstrated knowledge of national trends, solutions and best practices.
- Principles and practices of project or program planning and management.
- Ability to coordinate a variety of activities involved in the planning and execution of events.
- Ability to investigate and resolve public problems and complaints.
- Ability to operate a computer and appropriate software applications.
- Ability to work long and irregular hours, including some weekends, evenings, holidays and during states of emergency or disaster (natural or man made).
- Ability to understand and influence the behavior of others within the organization, customers or the public in order to achieve job objectives and cause action or understanding.
- Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize. Ability to work independently.
- Must possess exceptional organizational skills necessary to analyze the needs of the customers and clients in order to anticipate certain service requirements.
- Knowledge of principles and methods of qualitative and quantitative research.
- Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local laws, codes, regulations (based on assignment).
- Must exhibit customer service principles.
Preferred Qualifications
- While not required, it is preferred that applicants possess a current Certified Sports Security Professional (CSSP) certification.
- While not required, it is preferred that applicants have successfully completed the International Association of Venue Managers (IAVM) “Academy for Venue Safety and Security (AVSS)”. Coursework in addition to that listed above in the National Incident Management System and other emergency management and event management courses is highly desirable.

- Applicants must possess a valid North Carolina drivers license or be able to obtain one within 60 days of employment.
