Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Academic Intervention Specialist supports student success in the BASORGL program by providing proactive, individualized academic and non-academic coaching to help students overcome barriers to progression and completion. Reporting to the Retention Specialist and working collaboratively with faculty and the program director, the Intervention Specialist monitors student progress and engagement, identifies students in need of support, and implements targeted interventions to promote academic persistence. This role also supports the recruitment, admission, advising, and registration process by assisting prospective and continuing students. In partnership with the Workforce Development in Organizational Leadership area, the Intervention Specialist works closely with the Experiential Learning Coach to align student support with applied learning experiences, ensuring students remain connected, prepared, and successful in their academic journey. Evening and weekend availability may be required for virtual or in-person coaching sessions and program activities.

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities
 

  • Provides individualized academic coaching, registration support, and advising for students enrolled in the BASORGL program.
  • Collaborates with the Retention Specialist and faculty to monitor student progress, identify barriers to success, and implement timely, targeted interventions.
  • Participates in coaching and student support trainings, applying best practices in student engagement, persistence, and retention.
  • Assists with transcript audits, onboarding, and early engagement strategies for incoming and returning students.
  • Conducts proactive outreach to students through pre-term check-ins, mid-term progress reviews, and individualized support meetings.
  • Ensures timely and professional communication with students and faculty, responding to emails and outreach within 24 hours.
  • Maintains accurate student records, including coaching notes, academic performance data, and intervention outcomes.
  • Coordinates closely with college departments such as Enrollment Services, Financial Aid, and the Registrar to connect students with appropriate resources.
  • Collaborates with the Experiential Learning Coach to support students participating in experiential learning projects, ensuring integration of academic coaching with applied learning experiences.
  • Assists with planning and participating in recruitment events, orientations, and student engagement activities throughout the academic year.
  • Supports the development and facilitation of student organization events, workshops, and retention-focused initiatives.
  • Maintains flexible availability to meet student needs, including some evening and weekend virtual or in-person sessions.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Retention Specialist or BASORGL Program Director.
 

Qualifications/Certifications/Licenses/Skills

Required:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Experience in advising, tutoring, education, counseling, or related field.
Preferred:
  • Bachelors Degree in Education, Counseling, or Related Field
  • Experience in career counseling or academic advising.     
  • Experience in educational setting.
  • Experience with online learning, counseling, advising, and other online student services.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Knowledge of online technology such as Learning management systems, Zoom, etc.
  • Time and project management skills
  • Ability to work in a team

Physical Requirements
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit.  
The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, or crouch.
